Why this exists
Someone is going to need this information on the worst day of their life.
They will be tired, frightened, and working from memory. The question is only whether you decided in advance what they would find.
The problem
Most families are one phone call away from a search.
The information a family needs in an emergency is not missing. It is scattered. It lives in one person's head, one person's phone, one person's filing drawer, and one person's memory of a conversation from four years ago. It is perfectly organized right up until the one person who understands the system is the person who cannot explain it.
What follows is not a legal problem or a financial problem. It is a findability problem. Somebody has to call the right number, locate the right document, and take the right first step, and they have to do it while managing a crisis. Every hour spent looking is an hour not spent deciding.
The Finder's Book exists to close that gap in an afternoon, using a pen.
The doctrine
A pointer, not a vault.
This is the single decision that shapes everything else in the book, and it is the reason it is safe to keep in a drawer.
A vault holds your secrets. A pointer holds directions to your secrets. The Finder's Book is deliberately, structurally a pointer. It records which bank, not which password. Which attorney, not which account number. Where the will is kept, not what the will says. Which password manager the household uses, and who has been told how to reach it — never the master password itself.
That constraint costs a little convenience and buys an enormous amount of safety. A pointer that is found by the wrong person is an inconvenience. A vault that is found by the wrong person is a catastrophe. We chose the version that fails gracefully.
It is also why the book works on paper. You do not need our servers, our app, or our company to exist in ten years for your family to open a binder and read what you wrote.
The method
Four decisions first. The rest whenever you are ready.
The reason most organizers fail is not that they are badly made. It is that they ask for eighty answers before they give you anything back. People start, stall on page six, and never return to a document that now makes them feel behind.
The Finder's Book front-loads the four answers that carry the most weight in an actual emergency, so that fifteen minutes of work produces something genuinely useful. Everything after that is optional depth, added at whatever pace real life allows. A half-finished Finder's Book is still dramatically better than nothing, and it is designed to say so on its own pages.
Both a fillable and a printable version are included, because some households will type and some will write, and a system nobody uses is not a system.

An organizer should help your family find the right next step, not pretend to replace a professional.
The Finder's Book is a structured template for personal record-keeping. It is not a will, a trust, a contract, a power of attorney, or an advance directive, and it confers no authority over any account, property, or medical decision. The legal documents your family will need are the originals, signed and witnessed according to the law of your jurisdiction.
We say this plainly on the product page, in the book itself, and here, because a document that overstates its own authority is worse than no document at all.
